| STUDENT COUNCIL
The Madison Meadows Student Council is extremely involved in our school. The Student Council makes many important decisions that effect all of Meadows. Our Student Council supports numerous school activities such as an annual talent show, clothing drive and book drive, school dances, and pep rallies. The Student Council runs and maintains a snack bar during lunch as well as after school in order to raise money for the various needs of the student body. The Student Council is a very important and integral part of the Meadows community. CHESS CLUBChess Club began September 11, 2006 for the fall semester. This club meets on Mondays from 3:05 to 4:15 pm. The fourteen week course welcomes beginners and is coached by Mr. Ziyatdinov. Studies by major corporations and universities have shown that chess can help students increase their math and verbal skills, as well as their creative and critical thinking abilities. If you have questions about this award winning group, contact Coach Scott at 482-4867, or email chessemp@juno.com. For information on upcoming scholastic chess events, visit the website www.inficad.com/~chessemporium. BOOK READERS CLASSES@MADISON MEADOWS LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER At the beginning of each school year, Ms. Roof asks students to become members of the Book Club. The students prefer to meet during their lunch hour and therefore two Book Clubs exist. One group consists of 7th and 8th grade students meeting during Period 6, the other group consists of 5th and 6th grade students meeting during Period 5 in the Library Media Center or even outside under the shade of a tree. This year the 7th and 8th grade group met every three weeks, the 5th and 6th grade group met every four weeks to discuss a selected book. The books were chosen by the students from the Arizona Library Association's Grand Canyon Readers' Award recommended list of recently published young adult books. The discussions were lively and very interesting. Ms. Roof provided appropriate background information about the books, the themes, and information about the authors. Ms. Roof, the librarian, and a group of students have formed A BOOK READERS’ CLUB ONE GROUP WILL BE FOR 5TH AND 6TH GRADE STUDENTS ANOTHER GROUP WILL BE FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADE STUDENTS
Books will be selected from the Grand Canyon Young Readers’ Award recent recommendations, from the student, and from their parents!
